Imagine this: A client just signed up for coaching. They're excited. You're excited. And then... crickets. No clear next steps, no structured welcome, just an awkward limbo where they wonder if they made the right choice.

And this applies to anything you offer! A membership, a product, a service other than coaching. Any time someone makes a purchase from you or signs up for something of yours (even if it is free), they should hear from you right away!

That’s why a great onboarding sequence matters. It sets expectations, builds trust, and—most importantly—saves you from manually repeating the same information over and over.

Here’s a simple 3-step onboarding sequence you can set up today:

1️⃣ Welcome Email:

Send an immediate, warm welcome that shares in your excitement. Any time someone invests their time and/or money in you, you want them to know you’re grateful and excited. If they get crickets… do you really care about them?

Tell them you’re excited and provide them with anything you may have promised them. If they signed up for a product, make sure they receive access right away. Then let them know what they can expect from you moving forward and how they can get started with the super exciting thing they just signed up for.

Moments after someone signs up with you is when they are most engaged, excited, and eager to get started.

💡 Pro Tip: Add a personal touch—record a short video welcome or drop a quick voice note to make your onboarding feel high-touch without adding extra work.

2️⃣ Pre-Work & Expectations:

Send a brief questionnaire to understand their goals and set the stage for success.

You can include this in the welcome email or send it a few days later—just be mindful of balancing engagement with overwhelm.

But a questionnaire can be so valuable to understanding who this person is, what they are hoping to gain from your work together, and it can provide you with a roadmap for how to best serve them.

3️⃣ Schedule Reminders:

Do you really want to set your clients up for success? Set up reminders for them to be on live calls or completing coursework by certain dates.

People get busy—your reminders help them stay engaged and get the most value from your work together.

With automation tools like ActiveCampaign or Mailchimp, you can set all of these emails up and trigger them to run seamlessly for every new client.
